Tugay Başar - Timuçin Gürer Duo
Tugay Başar and Timuçin Gürer have been working together since 2002 and giving concerts and performances on the basis of body percussion and body music. They’ve been arranging trainings, workshops and various activities. They make music and rhythm shows with the contribution of audience. TUGAY BAŞAR
He graduated from Mimar Sinan University Ethnomusicology Department in 1989. He completed his masters degree at Ethnomusicology Department in 1993. He took his psychodrama coleader certificate in 1997. Since 1997, he has been attending seminars in the fields of music and movement training on the basis of Orff approach. He has been giving music education in kindergardens since 1982. Between 1992 and 1998, he studied on music therapy with different groups such as autistics. Between 2002 and 2007, he gave lessons on music and movement and body percussion in Ayışığı Atölyeleri. He has been preparing performances in the fields of body percussion, music and movement training with children and adults. He’s been working as a consultant at Orff Schulwerk Education and Consultancy Center. He worked with music groups Ezginin Günlüğü, Rönesans, Bezmara, Emin İgüs Grup and Uçan Halı. In the late 2003, he founded body percussion trio KeKeÇa. He was also the music and rhythm director of ‘Aksak İstanbul Hikayeleri’ which was written and directed by Yeşim Özsoy Gülan in 2004-2005. In 2007, together with Timuçin Gürer and in Zekiye Doğan’s leadership, he has founded and still is directing the Anadolu University KeKeÇa Ensemble, comprising 35 university students who are hearing impaired. The ensemble has performed in Pecs, Hungary on May 2008, with the motto ‘Her Beden Duyar/Every Body Hears. |
TİMUÇİN GÜRER
He studied engineering but was also involved in folk music, folk dance and theater performances during university years. Currently he works part time for an engineering company where he is one of the partners, as a strategic planning consultant and new business developer. Beginning from the early 80's, he took part in music groups playing the percussions as well as singing. He is still a member of a music group who have released two records and performed in several concerts in domestic and international festivals. Since 2002, he has been working on Body Music with his Tugay Basar who has developed a new approach in the Body Percussion field, which he names as "KeKeÇa". He is assisting Tugay in various workshops, school or company training programs and performances. They are working with disabled and non-disabled children, youngsters and adults of all ages. In the last 2 years they have been working with hearing impaired university students under a project titled "Every Body Hears/Her Beden Duyar". They made several workshops and 3 performances in 2008, one of which took place in Hungary-Pecs. Timuçin Gürer is concentrated on the interface of body music field with music, percussion, improvisation; as well as with theatre and dance. As a body percussionist, he believes every body can join in the music. |
